Description

One ounce of wild dried morels= Approximately 1/2 pound re-hydrated.

2021 crop, harvested in the North Woods of Minnesota. These morels are all black variety, once harvested they are rinsed to get pollen, cotton, and dust off. Then they are placed single layer on screens to sun dry for 10- 12 hours and finished off in a dehydrator to ensure the process has killed any bacteria.

For those of you who have never had black morels, the flavor is amazing. Quite similar to golden morels only with a bit more flavor. Black morels are smaller than golden morels, but the quality is outstanding!

The morels are sealed in glass jars until the time of purchase. Once purchased the mushrooms are transferred to a food grade bag. Each bag is actually 1.1 oz which provides a couple of extra mushrooms for you, I do this to ensure satisfaction with your order.

I have hunted mushrooms for almost 40 years and morels are hands down the family favorite here!

To re-constitute: soak in large bowl of warm water for 30 min, gently rinse, slice in half , carefully rinse again until you are satisfied. Next, leave the mushrooms in a strainer over a bowl  for another short while to allow them to drain.

Do not eat mushrooms without cooking!

Here are a few ways to prepare and serve your mushrooms:

One of my favorite ways to cook morels is to take the halves, dip them in egg, roll them in flour, and fry them in butter (or for you bacon lovers out there nix the butter and fry in fresh bacon grease).

Another family favorite is homemade Beef Stroganoff. Saute the mushrooms on the side with butter/garlic salt and add to the sauce to simmer for the last 15 min. The mushrooms take on the flavor of the sauce but turn an ordinary meal into a fantastic meal! serve with garlic bread and salad:)

Last, but certainly not least….morels are amazing to cut into smaller pieces and mix into wild rice casserole or soup. The rice and mushrooms are the perfect compliment to each other. It is a true dish straight out of the North Woods!
